Michelle Powell

President

Michelle Powell, Castella Mae's first-born grandchild, is a living testament to her grandmother's enduring legacy. Motivated by her grandmother's initial breast cancer diagnosis, Michelle pursued a career in radiology, specializing as a mammographer. Her passion for women's health was ignited by Castella Mae's journey, leading her to dedicate her life to making a transformative change in women's health care.

Beyond her professional commitments, Michelle is also the proud owner of Mammo Masters of Atlanta. This institution serves a dual purpose – it trains technologists to become skilled mammographers and instills in them the importance of compassionate care, ensuring that every patient feels seen, heard, and valued.

Michelle's deep-rooted commitment to women's health culminated in the creation of the Stella Mae Foundation. Through this initiative, she strives to make mammography accessible to all women in the community, ensuring that no one faces the barriers her beloved grandmother once did.

Sheila Powell

Vice President

Sheila Powell, Castella Mae's eldest child, embodies the love, dedication, and resilience that defined their relationship. Throughout her mother's arduous journey with breast cancer, Sheila stood as a pillar of unwavering support. Whether it meant driving long hours to be present for every treatment during her mother's first diagnosis or opening her home to Castella during her second battle, Sheila's devotion knew no bounds.

Inspired by her mother's experience and determined to make a change, Sheila pursued a career as a mammographer, further amplifying the family's commitment to women's health. Her hands-on expertise and compassion have touched countless lives in the community.

Beyond her individual contributions, Sheila also proudly co-owns Mammo Masters of Atlanta alongside Michelle. Their joint venture serves as a beacon of excellence, training radiology technicians to become dedicated mammographers, ensuring the next generation of professionals carry forward the legacy of care, expertise, and compassion.

Britney Newberry

Treasurer

Britney Newberry, the second eldest grandchild of Castella Mae, carries forward her grandmother's legacy with a unique blend of empathy and expertise. Bearing firsthand witness to Castella Mae's courageous battle with breast cancer, Britney's personal experience instilled in her a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those touched by the disease.

Holding a degree in sociology, Britney possesses a keen insight into the intricate dynamics of human society, allowing her to approach the foundation's work with both compassion and analytical precision. With a proven track record of handling finances for various esteemed institutions, she brings to the table an indispensable skill set, ensuring that every donated dollar is used effectively and transparently in service of the foundation's mission.

At the heart of Britney's commitment to the Stella Mae Foundation is the memory of her beloved grandmother, driving her to ensure that no one has to face the complexities of breast cancer alone.

Angel Dennison

Angel Dennison, Castella Mae’s third eldest grandchild, has been a beacon of hope and support in her community through her dedication as a social worker for over seven years. Initially focusing her efforts on aiding survivors of domestic violence, Angel has since transitioned to a clinic specializing in HIV care. Her pivotal role involves connecting individuals living with HIV to essential healthcare and community resources. One of her primary responsibilities ensures that detectable individuals promptly receive HIV medication, a critical step in halting the spread of HIV in the community. Angel’s academic journey is both commendable and extensive. She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work from The University of Georgia. Her accolades further include membership in the Kappa Alpha chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society and the distinction of being her high school’s valedictorian. Moreover, Angel proudly possesses her social work licensure. This foundation holds a unique place in Angel’s heart, being established in memory of her beloved grandmother. Throughout her life, Angel has been a staunch advocate for breast cancer awareness, research, and fundraising. From her high school capstone project to her invaluable sessions on breast health during her work with domestic violence survivors, Angel has consistently championed the cause of breast health education. Angel’s addition to our board promises a fresh and essential social work perspective. Her deep personal ties to the foundation’s mission, coupled with her unyielding passion for community welfare and inherent altruism, make her an indispensable asset in propelling the foundation towards its goals.

Bevelian Myers

Bevelian Myers stands out as a consummate healthcare professional with over two decades dedicated to the field of diagnostic radiographic services in the public domain. Her meticulous attention to detail, coupled with her cross-discipline expertise in operations, management, and leadership, showcases her as a decisive and results-oriented leader, especially in the realm of Mammography. In her present capacity, Mrs. Myers plays a pivotal role in mammography diagnosis, processing and monitoring images with precision. Her duties extend beyond the technical, as she guides patients with care during procedures, ensuring their safety and strict adherence to procedures. She is steadfast in upholding quality control standards, meeting the stringent regulations set by the ACR and FDA. Adept with systems like PACS and Vista, she possesses an in-depth understanding of mammography equipment. Beyond her technical prowess, Mrs. Myers is a dedicated mentor, providing invaluable onboarding training and fostering educational growth opportunities for her colleagues. Her professional affiliations further solidify her standing, maintaining active partnerships with esteemed professional organizations. Mrs. Myers’s illustrious career journey includes pivotal roles at renowned institutions like Advanced Southern Imaging, Northside Hospital, Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, and the New York City HIP Center. Her academic accomplishments include a BS in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s NY, an AS in Radiologic Technology and Medical Imaging from NYC Technical College, and a Certificate in Medical Coding from Molloy College, NY. A powerhouse in her field, Bevelian Myers brings a blend of vast experience and unwavering commitment to our board, driving our mission with her expertise and passion.

The Legacy of Castella Mae

The Stella Mae Foundation is a heartfelt tribute to the indomitable spirit of Castella Mae, a remarkable woman whose battle with breast cancer left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Despite her courageous fight, breast cancer claimed her life on June 19, 2015.

Castella Mae was not just a symbol of resilience, but also an embodiment of boundless love and generosity. Her character was such that she would often prioritize others' needs above her own, always ready to give, even if it meant parting with her very last.

Inspired by her legacy, the Stella Mae Foundation was born. Our mission is to ensure that every woman has access to a mammogram, and to provide unwavering support throughout their breast cancer journey. Through this foundation, we honor Castella's memory by continuing her spirit of giving, ensuring that every woman, irrespective of her financial situation, receives the care and support they deserve.
